RE: TRANSPORTATION, FORMS, CAMP OPENING, STAFF ASSIGNMENT

Dear Staff Member,

I hope this note finds you well. Camp is rapidly approaching and preparations have reached their usual feverish pitch for this time of year. The following are some important matters that need to be addressed before camp opens:

1) TRANSPORTATION - FIRST MONTH

All camp staff are required to be at camp on Friday, June 19, 2009. There will be staff busses leaving from near the camp office at 10:00 A.M. We will be leaving from Seventh Ave. – between 27th and 26th Sts.

PLEASE BE ON TIME! DO NOT LEAVE YOUR LUGGAGE UNATTENDED. Please cooperate and help in loading the camp busses and truck. Please return the enclosed staff travel card to reserve a place on the staff bus and inform us how you plan to travel to camp. If you do not reserve a place on the bus, we will not guarantee that there will be room for you on the staff busses and you will have to pay for public transportation to camp.

  • Those staff who are unable to come on June 19th MUST contact Alan Silverman at the camp office to discuss the situation. Only extreme reasons or dire situations can be considered as excuses for not attending pre-camp from the outset. Camp Moshava will NOT pay for the transportation of staff members not using the camp busses.
  • Staff members who have permission to arrive late should note the following. You are responsible for your transportation to camp. There is a Shortline Bus that leaves the Port Authority each morning. Ask the driver to let you off in Indian Orchard, PA. We suggest that you bring your luggage on Friday, June 19th to go on the Moshava staff luggage truck (by 10:00 AM).
  • TABC Luggage Delivery – You can bring your luggage to TABC HS in Teaneck, NJ on Thursday, June 18th from 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM. This luggage will be delivered on Friday, June 19th to camp!

2) TRANSPORTATION - SECOND MONTH

All camp staff are required to be at camp on Wednesday, July 22, 2009. There will be staff busses leaving from 27th St. and Seventh Ave. at 9:00 A.M. Please read # 1 above in its entirety!!!!!

3) FORMS

The following forms must be filled out before you will receive a paycheck.

  1. Medical Form - Have your doctor and parents fill out the medical form and return it to the camp office. THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FORM!!! Please note that you will NOT be allowed to work at Camp Moshava without a medical form on file in the camp infirmary. There are NO exceptions to this rule.

PLEASE RETURN THE MEDICAL FORMS TO THE CAMP OFFICE BY March 1, 2009.

  2. I-9 Form - The Federal Government requires a form that documents your American citizenship. You, therefore, must bring one of the following with you to camp:

    - Current Passport ( a photocopy will suffice )
    - Drivers License AND Social Security Card
    - Birth Certificate (Photocopy)

These documents are necessary to fill the form out at camp. If you filled out a I-9 form last summer, you will not be required to fill out a new one this summer.

  3. W-4 Form - Tax Form ( Filled out at camp ).

4) PAYCHECKS

All paychecks are issued the day that you leave camp and complete all your responsibilities as a staff member. Please note that the following are deducted from your paychecks:

  • FICA - Social Security Tax
  • Bnei Akiva Dues - $12.50 is deducted from your paycheck and Camp Moshava pays the other half of the fee on your behalf.

5) PERSONAL CARS

Staff members younger than 19 years old are NOT permitted to bring personal vehicles to Camp Moshava. Staff members between 19 and 21 years old must have written permission from their parents to bring a personal vehicle to camp. Staff members (who are permitted) that decide to have a car in camp must bring properly licensed, registered, inspected and insured vehicles only. Staff MUST drive no faster than 25 mph on Navajo Road – the road leading into camp. All private vehicles must be parked in the staff parking lot below the Beit Knesset. You are not to enter the main campus with a private car for ANY reason, EVEN to unload your belongings. All personal cars will be registered at the Guard Shack upon your arrival.

6) POSITION AT CAMP

When assigning individual "tafkidim" or jobs, Camp Moshava strives to accommodate the first choices of all staff members and ensure the most productive and enjoyable summer for our staff. Nevertheless, we must match your needs with the needs of the camp as well. Please see the enclosed staff assignment sheet which has complete information concerning your staff position at camp and other responsibilities as well. If you have any questions or problems with your assignment, please send us an e-mail at Cmosh@Moshava.cnc.ne.

We are looking forward to a very successful summer. YOUR cooperation, effort and hard work are essential to achieve this goal.

Sincerely yours,

Channah Spiegelman Alan Silverman
