Every Friday the entire camp, squeaky clean and dressed in white and blue, gathers together and forms the letter "chet" for mifkad. The Rosh Mosh, with her staff presides. She reviews the highlights of the week with the camp, gives the eidot a chance to cheer and speaks about the parsha. At our first Friday mikfad of the summer there was a skit tied into the theme of the month Yisrael B'artzo.

Shlomo and Penina, our museum cleaners from the opening tochnit, passed by another exhibit hoping that the characters would come to life. Unfortunately, they did not. As they left the event indeed came to life. The scene portrayed the battle of Yehoshua at Givon, where the sun froze in the sky and allowed Yehoshua and the Israelites to win in their battle.

Eidah Gimmel Discovery Zone

The Discovery Zone is a hands-on experiential museum focusing on the life during the times of Nevi'im Rishonim (the early prophets). The chanichim are given a brief introduction and are then encouraged to explore each different area. In one corner, there is music from the Tanach area, the chanichim can play biblical instruments and make their own biblical panpipe. In another area, they can make biblical jewelry. They can also learn about biblical weaponry and can use the large slingshot like David did with Goliath. In another corner, the chanichim can write letters home and seal them with the wax seals that are specially made and relevant to our Navi theme. In the center of the room, there is a large checkerboard with thick pieces, each named for another gibor (hero) in Navi. Finally, the chanichim can go to "Batsheva's Closet" and try on her ancient garb and jewelry.

Eidah Daled Survivor Challenge

Using a text study as our basis, we taught chanichim a battle plan based on the story of Yonatan and his arms-bearer (שמואל א. פרק יד). We then recreated a battle challenge based on the popular TV show, Survivor. The Chanichim raced each other, challenged each other in puzzles, Tanach knowledge, and physical abilities. Chanichim use their mind and strength to be Moshevet Yisrael Beartzo's survivor winner.

Machal

Machal enjoyed all the wonderful activities in camp today. They leave tomorrow for an overnight and two day hike.
