Takes Many forms

Chinuch at machane is a combination of the formal and informal and takes many forms. From the early morning cocoa and mishna clubs, in which campers come before tefilla to the beit midrash and learn together in small groups while sipping hot cocoa,

to the Friday afternoon “big sweep” activity in which everyone is given a big black garbage bag and an area of the camp to pick up trash, we try to teach values of ahavat yisrael, torat yisrael, eretz yisrael, respect for one’s environment and property, civic responsibility, and so much more.

There is also a great deal of thought that goes into planning the educational peulot. Today we will take you behind the scenes to the Time Machine – an activity that is being done with each of the eidot.

What was it like entering and conquering the old city in 1967?
What decisions did the Chief of Staff have to make on the eve of the Six Days War?
What kinds of questions does the head of a unit have to make about weighing the risks of hurting civilans when trying to capture a wanted terrorist?

How do we make these scenarios, the issues, and the history more relevant and realistic for campers?
Enter David and Yocheved Debow, Anna Wruble and the Chinuch team and their creative concept of a time machine.

The conclusion - an Oscar Night- was loads of fun, but the process of discussing the scenario, acting it out, and filming was a valuable learning experience for all.
