Moshava welcomed some potential new campers today who are pictured here checking out the facilities…

And in other big news today, the entire camp learned about, and prepared for, Aliya L’Regel, as part of the month-long unit on Jerusalem- past and present.

How does one teach about and engage children in the history and rituals of the beit hamikdash? Teaching about Aliyah L’Regel, or the three times a year, Sukkot, Pesach and Shavuot, that the Jewish people ascended to Jerusalem to bring their offerings, requires some creativity. Leave it to the creative minds and talents of our chinuch staff to plan and implement the mischak and shuk that we had today.

For the better part of the morning, campers imagined themselves as the tribe of Dan getting ready to spend their ma’aser sheni shekalim in Jerusalem.

Campers participated in a ropes challenge which was designed to help them understand that walking to Jerusalem was a long and sometimes difficult trip. (click here) to watch them in action.

Here they are pictured making satchels for their shekalim

and at other stations... preparing bikkurim

This was all a build up for the Shuk Aliyah L’Regel, held this afternoon under the big tent. Just like the Ma’aser Sheni had to be used in Jerusalem, campers received shekalim to spend on 30 stations with themes of Jerusalem and Aliya L’Regel. Visit hey, aleph, and bet in this exciting time travel activity. Pictured below: Bobbing for Bikkurim, make your own biblical sandals, pita making, dunk the “tameh” contestant, cow milking, lighting up the way to Jerusalem...

Unfortunately, the weather put a damper on the Shuk, but a good time was had by all before the rain.

And in other news in camp, join Eidah Hey on the low ropes and climbing wall, and hear their thoughts on nikayon (click here) and activities (click here)

Join Eidah Aleph on the ropes, melechet yad, drama, and the climbing wall.

See Eidah Bet in melechet yad, on the karchone, enjoying Chavaya Yisraelit, and in archery.

Eidah Daled you will find in a variety of sports and melechet yad.

And Eidah Gimmel on their Chutz, though they came back early due to the inclement weather.

Enjoy the day!
