Chinuch at Machane
Chinuch,
education, takes on many forms here, at Camp Moshava. Early on the morning
of Visiting Day, before parents arrived, and every Friday before Shabbat, campers
are charged with “big sweep,”or cleaning up the camp.
Each bunk is assigned to an area in camp which they have to clean
up. The message, from a young age, is one of responsibility – that we
are responsible for our camp, and in a larger sense, for our community and our
world.
Indeed, while this has always been the message at Camp Moshava, this month
the theme is
– leadership.
At the first pre-Shabbat mifkad held this month, the story of David Hamelech
was introduced, as an example of a role model that overcame a personal obstacle
in order to lead
.

Night activities, such as fear factor and Hasbaranium were,
and are taking place across all eidot.

Hasbaranium is a unique blend of several board games – Cranium,
Taboo, Pictionary and Trivial Pursuit.
Campers play in small teams. They are given a game board which is in the shape
of a magen david. Each of the 6 tips corresponds to a different time period
in Jewish history. The object of the game is for each team to get at least one
card from each color category. Teams do this by answering the questions on the
card correctly or meeting the challenge on the card.
| Some examples of challenges include:
Picture It
On the reverse side is written a word or phrase. Without talking or
charading get your team to guess the phrase by sketching on paper. You
may not write words, numbers, letters or symbols. You have sixty seconds
on the clock.
Word: a peace treaty
Activate
One representative from each team participates. Read the scenario on the
reverse side. All groups write down as many creative activist responses
as they can in 60 seconds. Teams compare responses and duplicates are
crossed out. The team with the most remaining ideas wins the card.
Scenario: A Christian friend has decided to spend a week with you in
Israel. What will you do so that he leaves with the most positive impression
of Israel?
Counter It
Roll the die. You have the roll x10 seconds on the clock. You must
speak without stopping countering the following statement. You cannot
repeat yourself.
Question:
Zionism is Racism.
The United Nations has agreed to this point by adopting a resolution in
1975 to that effect.
(on the back of the card there are answers for campers who could use
the help)
Make It (with play-doh)
Create the object indicated on the reverse side of the card out of
clay. You have 60 seconds.
Felafel
Hum It
You have 15 seconds on the clock. Hum or whistle the song on the reverse
side of the card. Your team must guess the song. Points scored depend
on how fast the team guesses it.
