Chinuch at Machane Moshava

Chinuch (education) is central to Moshava's philosophy and daily activities. Whether in daily sheurim (lessons), as featured here, or as part of activities, campers learn about the Torah, Israel, Jewish History, and the Jewish people.

This past Friday and all through Shabbat, campers and staff listened with fascination as one of the officers in Operation Moses recounted his 17 night trek with 400 Ethiopian children across the Ethiopian desert into the Sudan in 1984. A total of 3000 children were brought over in that clandestine operation, to be followed 7 years later by Operation Solomon.

Join us for our Yom Iyun. The program will take place at Camp Moshava on Sunday, August 10 (not on Visiting Day which is Sunday, August 3rd) from 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM. The program will include sheurim (classes), independent study and opportunities to learn with your children. You are welcome to participate for the full day or for parts of the day. There is no charge for this program but we do request that you make reservations in advance. For more information, click here.
In sheurim, campers are learning a variety of topics based on their age and eidah, ranging from Iyun b'Tanach (textual study of the Bible), to Halachot (Jewish laws) and their rationale, to in depth study of T'fillah (Jewish prayer) and Iyunim B'machshevet Yisrael, topics in Jewish thought.

For the past eight years, Moshava has also featured a one of a kind Beit Midrash program for post high school (through college) men and women.

Founded by Rav Yitzchak Twersky, a veteran rebbe at Frisch and now co-led by Rabbi Reuven Taragin of Yeshivat Hakotel and Rebetzin Shani Taragin of Midreshet Lindenbaum, the Beit Midrash now boasts 50 young men and women who help set the tone for camp. Aside from their own learning and sheurim with rabbanim Rav Tabory of Yeshivat Har Etzion, Rav Twersky, Rav Taragin, and Rebbetzin Shani Taragin, Beit Midrash participants teach campers in groups and learn with them one-on-one and they join with campers in some activities. They serve as young role models in and beyond the Beit Midrash.

“It is incredibly exciting to reflect on the growth of the Beit Midrash from a corner of the 'old Moadon' to a cornerstone of Moshava!”

Rabbi Twersky

“The Beit Midrash program provides intensive learning opportunities for its participants and the entire camp, while helping talented educators impact on younger campers.”

Rabbi Taragin
