Moshevet Shivat Tzion

Moshava campers were introduced to the theme of this month, Moshevet Shivat Tzion (returning to the land of Zion) this past Wednesday night through a multi-media re-enactment of the twelve tribes crossing the Jordan River to enter the
Land of Israel, for the first time as a nation. During each of the next three weeks, campers will explore several times in Jewish history when the Jewish people returned to Israel as a nation. This week they are joining the exiles in Bavel (Babylonia) as Koresh, the Persian king, issues a proclamation (538 B.C.E.) allowing them to return to Israel. Next week they will relive the beginning of modern Zionism, traveling with Jews from Russia and Europe to build the build settlements, kibbutzim and cities, while learning about the flight of the Ma'aplilim (illegal immigrants) and the aid of the Haganah.
In the final week, they will learn about immigration to Israel in our own times and the special return of Jews from Yemen, Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union.
